Since the outbreak of the Corona Virus in China, a lot has been said. Some animals were blamed for the cause of it. There were reports of it being incurable. Until the real report came out, rumours were spread around the world. People started searching for the source with authentic news (I was one of those people).
Soon, I found one source which was providing authentic news. I was planning a foreign trip with family (around last week of May & the first week of June). Thus, I was closely following that source to keep the track of countries that are least affected by this novel virus. I was thinking of keeping a track till April mid before finalizing the destination. This was my mindset when coronavirus was spreading its legs around the world.
Then WHO declared it as a pandemic and it entered in India. Along with that, the number of rumours doubled. Suddenly, the whole scenario changed. There was fear and panic everywhere in the country. Thus, my priorities changed as well. From the luxurious foreign trip, it came down to survival.
The government started taking some bold steps to control the spread of coronavirus. Along with that people social media and messengers formed their communities and started spreading their homemade updates. In that situation, couple of exercises became very important. First exercise was again to find the authentic source of India’s situation. And second one was to filter out the information by detaching yourself from the topic.
When the government announced Janta Curfew, there was coronavirus information as well as rumours in the market. It was like open the door in the morning and rumours were falling on you. So, it was important to filter out the information and limit the intake of coronavirus updates.
If you are discussing, watching and reading about coronavirus 24/7 then you are increasing your anxiety. Thus I decided to watch the news only half an hour a day and discuss it around 15 to 20 minutes a day. That decision controlled my anxiety and updated me with all the numbers & measures taken by the government on daily basis.
The only difficulty I faced in that exercise was in finding an app (with my favourite news shows) on which I can watch the news at my own time. I installed 5 – 6 apps but I found my favourite news shows only on ZEE5. On ZEE5, I get an update of all the latest advances on coronavirus around the world.
