A Walkthrough Atal Foot-over Bridge

When local news channels and Instagram handles started creating hype around this bridge, I didn’t get the grandness of the project. I thought it will be like any other foot-over bridge.

When the first pictures of the architecture were released, the look of the bridge was jaw-dropping. The bridge looked much bigger and better than my imagination. Thus, I joined the hype and followed every update on it. I couldn’t wait to put my feet on it. Thus, as soon as it was open to the public, I paid a visit and walked through the bridge.

While walking through the bridge, I noticed few factors which make it unique and a must-visit.

Dynamic Design

The bridge is designed so dynamically that it has made the whole city spectacular. It connects one end of the Sabarmati river to another and it adds to the series of bridges across the river. The bridge stands on huge triangular poles. The poles not only give support to the bridge, but they are also the wow factor of it.

There are flakes attached to the top angle of the poles and those flakes are of different colours. Thus, these flakes make the bridge look vibrant. The flooring of the bridge is premium and it is done in such a way that you can avoid the outer gate and can enter or exit directly from the riverfront. As you will walk on the bridge you will find seats, art, artificial trees and food stalls. There are couple of blocks of glass floors which show you the water of the river.

In short, the design of the bridge is so awesome that it has been a crowd-puller from day one.

Entry

The main entrance of the bridge is next to the flower park in the Paldi area. If you are planning to visit the bridge then you must go with some extra time for the flower park. The second entry is the back entry and that is on the other end of the bridge. The other side is not much developed. Even the road is not proper, you will be welcomed by sand and stones at the back of the bridge.

There are two more entries and both of them are from the riverfront on either side of the bridge. In those entries, you have to climb up to enter the bridge. You can work out at the riverfront and then climb up to the bridge to get some fresh air and relax.

You can choose the entry to the bridge as per your preference.

Features

Apart from the dynamic design and multiple entries, the glass floor among designer tiles adds to the beauty of the bridge. This bridge completes the series of bridges over the Sabarmati River connecting one end of the city to another.

There is a well-planned sitting arrangement on the bridge and seats well placed as per the design of the bridge. The piece of art in the middle of the bridge proves that it is more than just a tourist spot. Lastly, there are stalls to quench your thirst and hunger and make your visit merrier.

All these features will pull you towards the bridge again and again.

Stalls

Talking about stalls, there are two stalls in the middle of the bridge. One of them is a food & beverages stall and the other one is an ice cream stall. You can have water or cold drinks or can grab a quick bite from a food & beverages stall. And to make your visit cooler, you can have ice cream from an ice cream stall. The seats are on either side of the stalls, you can enjoy the stuff comfortably on the seats.

The idea of having stalls on the footbridge is a brilliant one. People love to go out to satisfy their taste buds and this bridge has taken care of that as well.

In short, the authorities have done an incredible job with this foot-over bridge. Now, it is our responsibility of maintaining it and making it a gem of Ahmedabad.
