ZEE5 Originals: Baarish

In this lockdown, everyone is looking for content online. In that search, people are bumping on different platforms. And they are sticking to the platform on which they are finding the content of their taste. People are happily switching from their preferred platform to a new one in search of quality content. I bumped on to ZEE5 in search of a news channel. How?

After finding that news channel, I started exploring the platform and I found very interesting content on ZEE5. As far as entertainment is concerned, ZEE5 has a good mixture of super hit Bollywood movies and unique ZEE5 originals. ZEE5 originals comprise of not only web series but movies as well. One of the ZEE5 original series I finished recently is Baarish S2

Honestly, I picked this series first because of Sharman Joshi. Sharman Joshi has a knack of picking up the characters which other mainstream actors hardly prefer. And after picking up such roles, he delivers a memorable performance.

When I decided to watch this series, I had no idea that it is produced by Ekta Kapoor. It came to my notice while watching the first episode. So far ZEE5 has released two seasons of this series and both of them will entertain you and your family.

Plot

The story revolves around a simple and introvert mid-aged business tycoon Anuj Mehta (played by Sharman Joshi) and a simple and always positive mid-aged employee of his company Gauravi Karmakar (played by Asha Negi).

In season one, both of them are unmarried as they didn’t find the compatible partner. They meet in an event of the company. Before they could fall in love with each other, Sharman Joshi finds out that (coincidentally) his sister Shreya Mehta (played by Priya Banerjee) is in love with Gauravi’s brother Aniket Karmakar (played by Vikram Singh Chauhan). So to bring them together and make everyone happy, Anuj Mehta & Gauravi Karmakar ties a knot. Mehta family leads a luxurious lifestyle and Karmakar family leads a simple middle-class lifestyle. Thus after marriage, there was chaos and Anuj’s brother Rishi Mehta (played by Sahil Shroff) thinks Karmakar family is a gold digger and Anuj who established the whole empire is a misfit and an embarrassment to him and the business. Thus, Rishi starts planning and plotting which adds to the chaos. In the midst of this stuff, a love story between Anuj & Gauravi flourishes.

In season two, things get complicated and the relationship of Anuj and Gauravi suffer a lot. Anuj discovers about Gauravi’s affair and this creates jealousy, suspicion and misunderstanding between them. Basically, season two shows the bitter side of their relationship. And there comes the role of legendary actor Jeetendra ji. Jeetendra ji plays the role of a veteran in the industry named Jeetuji Gandhi. Jeetuji tries to sort out the things between Anuj and Gauravi.

Review

The story of Baarish has a mixture of excitement (for youth) and drama (for family). It is a love story around family drama. I didn’t mention rain (Baarish) in the plot because makers have used it as the creative effect. Yes, it is the reason for some defining incidents but it is mostly used as a creative effect.

It is a family series and I would strongly recommend watching it with the family. The reason for my recommendation is that this series will give you the feel of Balaji’s greats like Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The adult content in this series is minimal so you won’t feel uncomfortable while watching it with your family.

As far as acting is concerned, Balaji has assigned roles according to actors’ strength and experience. Experienced actors play tougher and crucial roles and younger actors play an exciting role in this series. Sharman Joshi is exceptional. It is not like he has shown only his serious and emotional side, in this series; he has also used his comic timing to great effect. All other actors have complimented him really well. It is a perfect series for Jeetendra ji to make a digital debut. Jeetendra Ji wouldn’t have got a better series than this family drama to make his digital debut. His appearance makes the series more appealing for the families.

Overall, it is a series which has something for each member of the family. It has content to attract the younger generation, it has holding capacity (for the older generation) of Balaji’s great daily soaps and it gives the opportunity to watch the work of some legendary actors. Thus it is a must-watch in the time when you hardly find such content.
