30 Legends And A 90s Kid – Preface

Whenever I used to see an all-time XI of a cricket expert, I used to think which players will I pick in my all-time XI? So, one fine day, I sat down to pick my all-time XI. After I finished picking Indian players, there was no place for any other player. Then, I decided to pick the squad of fifteen and finally I stopped at thirty.

When I stopped, I realised that these thirty cricketers have an everlasting impression on me. These players made my childhood memorable and turned my love for cricket into a passion. While selecting these players I realised one more thing that it is not at all easy to pick an all-time XI.

The players I have selected make two squads: Asia and the Rest of the World. These kinds of squads were seen during charity or exhibition matches in the 90s. These days there are so many cricket leagues that bring international players together but back in the 90s and early 2000s, those charity matches were the only opportunity to see the greats of different countries playing together.

Before I share the squads, let me allow to introduce myself. I am Paresh Godhwani and I was born in 1991. I am a left-handed batsman and a left-arm bowler. I have selected these cricketers on the basis of the connection I established with them.

Check the squads:

The main reason behind writing this book is that all the players mentioned above have taught me some or the other thing in life. Thus, through this book, I want to give tribute to them and want to thank them for giving me lots of cherishable moments in my life.

  1. Wow! Congratulations on your book! I am going to buy this book and gift it to my cricket-crazy husband. I read out the list of cricketers you have featured, and he was thrilled!

    1. It was really tough in the initial stage but on the basis of my memories i made it simple. A lot of discussions happened when I released the list and in the end, I had to clarify that I am not representing the whole generation, it is based on my memories.

  2. Nice take. When I started reading your post, a number of names starting flashing in my mind with an inquisitiveness whether this player would be there in the list, kind. Luckily, all this 6-7 names had a place in your list either on the left or right.

  3. Congratulations on your new book. I am not a cricket fan but as I was going through the post, I found that being in the cricket-crazy country, I know many names. Cricket is all around in India just like air and no one can ignore cricket. ๐Ÿ™‚
