Baby Care Items You Need In First Semester of Child

The baby care market is one of the biggest markets in the world. And you are pulled in on the sentiment ‘how much you care about your child?’

As per the current trend of having only one child, parents try to give the best upbringing possible. And due to that, we end up buying the things we don’t need.

We often compare that others are using that stuff and his/her child is doing this and that so we should also try that stuff. By doing that, we are complicating the upbringing of our children. Every child is different and grows at his/her own pace.

I know it totally depends on your affordability but don’t complicate things even after overspending.

Now coming on to the baby care essentials you actually need in the first semester of a child. The first essential is cloth. You need a lot of pairs of clothes for the cleaner upbringing of your child. You don’t need them in the first couple of months but you need them at regular intervals as your child keeps growing and keeps changing his/her weight.

Other essentials are as follows:

Soap/Shampoo/Bodywash

Soap or bodywash is a must. When we were born only one brand was famous, ‘Johnson and Johnson’, parents had no other option. These days there are so many brands to choose from and most of them offer a combo of bodywash and shampoo. So shampoo will be unavoidable if you are going for bodywash. If you are going for soap then you don’t need shampoo or conditioner. Brands offer baby care kits these days, I would suggest you to avoid them because most of the things will remain unused from that kit. If you are using those things then you are complicating your child’s upbringing.

The soap/bodywash/shampoo brands I have used to date are Mamaearth and Himalaya. My son adopted both of them happily. Initially, my father told me to go for J&J but then I showed him the cases against the company.

Coconut Oil

This is where the game begins. Paediatricians will suggest different types of oils. One of hair, one for massage and one for the face. After analyzing your spending ability these oils will be prescribed as per their brand tie-ups. The fact is the best oil for a baby is coconut oil. It is the only oil that should be used on every part of the child. So I would suggest, stick to coconut oil from day one without wasting money. I use Parachute because along with increasing the strength of bones, it helps in healing the scars and treating mouth ulcers.

Talcum Powder

I feel it is the most sensitive essential for your child. It lasts long on a child’s body and can cause skin problems. If you don’t want to take any risk then avoid buying talcum powder from companies with bad reviews.

Substitutes are available in the market and are provided in the kits as well but talcum powder is a much better option. The doctor has advised keeping my son away from strong fragrances. Thus, talcum powder is a much better option compared to its substitutes. Again, I have used Mamaearth and Himalaya but in this case, I will suggest Himalaya.

Wipes

This is also one of the most essential items. It is used to clean the child’s body in different weather conditions. Wet wipes give freshness to the child and help you wipe the dirt off the child’s body. Again, different brands provide a wide range of wipes in the market. I use Piramal’s Little’s. I have tried big basket’s in-house brand and one more brand but none of them came close to little’s. Little’s is a quality and affordable product.

I would like to suggest that you shouldn’t buy more than two packets of wipes. As they get dry as time passes.

Diapers

I got my first pack of diapers from the hospital. It was the packet of pampers and they were the premium diapers. After using the first diaper, my wife said that they are leaking, buy a different brand.

My son was born just over 2.5 kgs and the only brand which had such a small size in the offline market was Mamy. Mamy Poko pants are the only diapers that are available from size zero to the biggest one. The fun fact is Mamy Poko pants have zero leakage, they are cheaper than other brands and don’t have any premium versions. In terms of quality and availability of size, only Huggies come closer to Mamy.

My suggestion would be don’t keep your child in diapers 24/7. Use them during nighttime and when you are going out. Otherwise, there will be rashes on your child’s body.

Nail Clipper

The nails of a child grow at regular intervals. And with those nails, a newborn scratches everything and everyone around. The child even scratches himself/herself with those nails. So it is important to have a nail clipper and you should cut the nails at regular intervals.

For a nail clipper, I would suggest you, buy it from the local store. It will cost you around 25 to 30 bucks from the local store. While online, you will end up spending 150 bucks for the same clipper.

These are the baby care essentials you will need in the first semester of your child, everything else is a marketing gimmick.

  7. Paresh, good to see the list from your experiences. Essentials are listed very well in the post and the parenting journey can very well continue. One item I would like to add is the baby hugger/baby bag in which we can hold the new born baby easily without fear of baby slipping away from the sheets.
