Food Destinations: Turkish Cafe, Ahmedabad

It’s not just any other open-air Cafe, it is an open-air Cafe with bean bags. It is a Cafe where you can enjoy winter morning coffee or summer evening Chinese with your date. You might be wondering that name is giving signs of turkey and I am talking about coffee and Chinese food. When I mentioned coffee, Turkish coffee was hidden in it. Though there is turkey in the name, the Cafe is Indian at heart. There are Turkish delicacies on the menu and to go by the name they are made in an authentic Turkish manner. At the end of the day, it is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and accordingly, it serves many other great dishes. In short, it is a cool Cafe with a Turkish twist.

Ambience

I mentioned earlier that it is an open-air Cafe with bean bags. I did that because the outdoor seating is arranged in the garden with bean bags around small tables. There is indoor seating as well but it is not as big as outdoor. Indoor seating is air-conditioned with comfortable chairs and a sofa. So no matter whether you choose to sit indoors or outdoors, you will be served well.

Food & Beverages

Normally, I choose the top 3 dishes in whichever restaurant I go to but here it is very difficult to do that. The main reason for that is I simply love their style of making food. They have a separate section for mocktails and Turkish menu, a separate section for food and a separate section for making the coffee. Before coming to coffee, let me give them the shout out for the way they make Chinese food. When it comes to Chinese food, I prefer street style Chinese to exotic restaurant style. And after trying Chinese at so many different places, I can tell that from the taste. The Turkish Cafe makes street style Chinese and serves it in the best possible way they can. You can choose any Chinese dish and I can bet that you will not be disappointed.

When I first visited the Cafe, I tasted Pasta Havana Sandwich and believe me, it was the best pasta sandwich. Unfortunately, they discontinued it after making it famous. Apart from that sandwich, I love the cheese toasts and paninis. Now, if I talk about coffee then you can pick any flavour or type you like, you won’t be disappointed. Even tea will give you what you are looking for. There is nothing new, they will serve normal machine coffee and regular tea, only thing is, the ambience will add to it. You can even try different types of shots over there. There is a mocktail counter attached to Turkish setup, you can enjoy different mocktails live.

Service

In the regular hours, they serve fast but in rush hours, you might have to wait for a couple of minutes more. The serving staff is comprised of young guys who are raw and new to the industry. Moreover, there is no Turkish expert so don’t expect authentic Turkish taste in Turkish menu. The guys who make those drinks are inexperienced so they try their best to match the standards. I feel with time, they will be able to serve 100% authentic Turkish drinks.

Rating

It is a great place to hang out with your loved ones. It is perfect for morning coffee, evening snack and after-dinner beverages. You can go, make yourself comfortable and have a good time over there. I often end up spending hours at this Cafe. I would recommend you to try pasta, dishes made with bread and Chinese food. Along with food, have tea or coffee as per your preference. The cafe is made in a huge area where you can get a variety of seats outdoor. Every type of seat is comfortable and add to the beauty of the premises. A separate mocktail counter will attract you. It will make you try different drinks. Among the mocktails, I will recommend you to try Jamun Shots.

Considering all these dishes and other factors, I will give Turkish Cafe a 4/5. The only reason, I am not giving 5/5 is the inexperience in making Turkish drinks. Otherwise, it is a soul-satisfying place.
