Leaf buds 2 – Pass or Buy?

I started podcasting last year and to take it forward I was looking for headphones or earbuds with a noise cancellation mic.

I thought my search came to an end when Leaf launched leaf buds 2. Leaf promoted them as buds with ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) mic.

Leaf buds 2 looks like apple AirPods, brand has simply tweaked the design somewhat and placed its logo on it. The price at which leaf launched them was Rs. 1699. Buds with noise-cancelling mic at that price was a great deal. No other brand is offering such a deal even today. It is kind of too good to be true price considering the features.

Despite knowing that it is too good to be true, I went for it because I was desperate for earwear with a noise cancellation mic. Apart from that, there was one more factor that pushed my fingers to order it. And that factor was the price. Though the company launched it at Rs. 1699, I bought it at Rs. 899 only. At that price, it was a win-win situation for me.

About Leaf

Correct me if I am wrong but I feel Leaf is as old as Boat or any other brand selling smart wearables, Leaf probably older than them. Internet introduced me to this brand and the first Leaf product that caught my eye was a headset. And the price at which they were selling those headsets was out of my budget. Since then, I wanted to try this brand. And the launch of earbuds 2 gave me that opportunity.

Noise Cancellation Mic

As soon as I got the buds, I decided to try the feature for which I bought them. I tried it on the calls before recording the episode. And there was nothing like noise cancellation, in fact, my friends complained that they are getting the surrounding noise more than my voice. I read the manual for steps to activate the noise cancellation and there was not even a single mention of the noise cancellation feature in manual.

As they didn’t pass my initial test, the thought of recording podcast episodes went under the carpet. I continued using them and found out that it has excellent playtime. Apart from that, the clarity of the speakers is also great. I don’t listen to music at maximum volume but at that point, the clarity of Leaf buds 2 is good.

Now I will tell you 5 reasons to buy the Leaf Buds 2 and 5 reasons to pass them.

Why buy?

Playback time. The playtime of these buds is really good. If you are looking for buds with good playtime then you should definitely go for it.

Clarity. The brand claims that buds 2 deliver super clear sound and to a great extent it performs as per the claim. Even at maximum volume, the sound comes out clear. Apart from that, you will listen to clear voice during the calls as well.

Deal. If you get the deal like me then you should definitely go for it. These are awesome buds if you get it under 1K. So search for deals like that and get them.

Design. These buds look like apple air pods and will catch the eyeballs if you wear them at public places. The brand has designed them keeping air pods in mind and has given them a cool look.

IPX4. Leaf buds 2 comes with an IPX4 rating, thus they are sweat proof. So if you want buds for workouts then these are perfect budget wearables.

Why pass?

Noise Cancellation Mic. Don’t go for it thinking that they will provide a noise cancellation mic, they won’t cancel the noise at all. Infact, they will invite the surrounding voice. Other participants on call will often complain about the surrounding noise.

Annoying touch features. Touch features are annoying as there is no button. while plucking them out of the ears some controls will be performed unknowingly. To switch on the buds you often need the help of a case as the on controls won’t work all the time with both buds.

Poor indication. The light signals are not clear. Sometimes when you put buds on charge the case light doesn’t indicate that.

Other options in the market. The price at which the brand has launched buds 2 is very competitive. There are other options in the market in the same price range which look cool and have similar features.

Made in China. These buds are made in China and are branded in India. I try to avoid buying made in china products but no matter how much I try I can’t deny the price in some categories and sometimes I end up buying them unknowingly. So if you don’t buy made in china products then pass them.

I shared my thoughts on the product after using it for almost three months. I have mentioned all the main points to buy and pass the product, now it’s your decision whether to go for it or not.

  1. I am sure that I will pass this, as I am looking for one which is Made in India for sure and with notice cancellation and you already mentioned to pass this because of these two factors. Thanks for sharing this honest review.

  2. I was looking for something like this but, honestly, my criteria weren’t as strict or detailed. Great review. I’m going to pass this and look for other options.

  3. This is such a honest and detailed review. I loved that you have used product three months and then share each and every aspect of it. I will explore more about the leaf buds from my side.

  4. Glad you posted an honest review after using it for three months. I just bought earphones from another company, and it is working pretty fine. I will surely recommend my sister, who is looking for a new one.

  5. Thank you for sharing this detailed review with all the necessary plus minus points. I would pass this one as I am looking for made in India brands

  6. Addressing it as noise cancellation mic and not having one is a great low of the product. Either claim it and deliver or upscale other feature. I have a bad experience with ear pods too, they discharge so often.

  7. I feel the design part is very sleek but as you said the noise cancellation feature is not exactly there so I will give these buds a pass. Thanks for the honest review.

  8. I would have picked up the product by looking at the attractive features but thanks to your honest review, I know that it would be best to passe because of the noise cancellation and poor indication.

  9. I haven’t heard about this brand earlier, but this definitely looks like a good option for gifting or self use. Thank you for sharing about it.

  10. I’ve never heard or come across this brand before. My husband is a fan of using varied headphones and ear pods. But he sticks to apple and bose for 1. The brand name, 2. The surety in quality.

  11. your website is looking nice and its user friendly and about the Leaf buds 2 its nice to look and built quality but at this price range another option available
