When Tata Sons were declared the sponsors of IPL for two seasons, there was a wave of happiness among the Indian fans. After China’s attempt to increase dominance on the Ladakh border, no one wanted a Chinese company as the title sponsor of IPL.
As Tata was announced as the title sponsor, I started predicting the products tata will promote. In the previous seasons of IPL, they promoted Harrier. So this season, I knew it is going to be Punch as it was a newly launched car by Tata Motors.
No one had any idea apart from Punch but Tata has some big plans. At the start of the season, Tata started teasing about something neu. And there were articles around that Tata is launching a new payments app. After reading those articles, I was like a payments app doesn’t sound exciting at all. It is the most cliche thing Tata can do. Before they launch it, they presented the Neu box in the stadium which created excitement in fans.
Every title sponsor gets the stadium space to make the fan box. And through that box, they give their selected customers an opportunity to enjoy the match in a completely different way. In the fan box, fans get the best view of the match and experience world-class hospitality. So when Tata presented its fan box, it created excitement as it was a well-designed and colourful space.
Finally, Tata launched Tata Neu app and when I downloaded and tried to register on day one, it showed me a server crash error. Even Tata didn’t expect that kind of load on the server on day one.
I was finally able to register on the 4th day and my first impression was that it isn’t just a payment app, it is Tata’s digital mall which provides you great discounts on Tata’s products and services.

My experience
It was a bit disappointing that I was not able to log in on the first day but it is our own Tata so I decided to give it another chance. I am glad that I gave it another chance. I use BigBasket regularly and the discounts I get are highly satisfying. Apart from that, I have booked a taj hotel for the first time. And I am excited to experience that.
I haven’t used Tata Cliq and Croma till now but I feel Tata Neu will make me habitual to these services as well. I have checked Air Asia as well but that service is out of the league as of now and is available on very limited routes.
Now let me share the experience while making payments. There is a lag in payments. The payment gateway doesn’t open at times. On that, I will say if at times, opening the payment gateway twice or thrice is giving you good discounts then it is worth trying.
Considering all the factors, I would say for the first time, the most trusted Indian brand is trying to do something big in the digital world on its own so it deserves a chance.
Lastly, knowingly or unknowingly, you are giving your data anyway so it is better to give your data to an Indian company rather than a Chinese company.
This app is new to me, so good to know that so many Indian brands are listed here. I will surely check this app.

App that manages all needs so much testing and Tata app actually failed in that. I was also keenly looking forward to it but was not happy using it.
You should probably start using it now as it has got better with the time.
