After covid, this is my second trip. The first one was a road trip but this time I decided to take the flight. My destination is Amritsar and my flights are booked.
From Ahmedabad, if I am travelling to Udaipur, Jaipur or even Jaisalmer then I give first preference to a road trip but if I am travelling further north then I prefer other modes of travel.
When I chose Amritsar as my next travel destination then keeping my one-year-old in mind, the flight was my default choice. A train journey from Ahmedabad to Amritsar would have taken more than 24 hours and my son is too restless to spend around 28 hours in the train. Thus, to reach Amritsar in a single day, the flight was the only option.
To choose the flights to and fro Amritsar, I started researching three months prior to the departure date.
Research
I started with timing. If I was travelling alone or even with my wife then I would have booked late-night flights but with my son, I didn’t want to take that risk. Lack of sleep would have made him cranky. Thus, I booked the flights in that phase of the day when my son is awake.
The second important factor of my research was the price. Normally, people say that you get the cheapest rates if you book your flights two months before your trip. I started searching the flights three months before. And I feel I got the best rates at that point of time. If you book flights three months prior to your trip then you can get even premium flights in your budget.
Ahmedabad – Amritsar
Almost all the airline companies will provide you flights with from Ahmedabad to Amritsar but most of them will be connecting flights. The majority of connecting flights will be from Delhi airport but few of them will be from Mumbai airport as well.
I have booked Vistara and I have a halt at Delhi airport. I chose Vistara as my ‘to’ flight for the following reasons:
1. The timings were great.
2. I have had a great experience flying with Singapore airlines and (for those who don’t know) Vistara is an amalgamation of Singapore airlines and Tata group.
3. It has a halt at Delhi airport. As I am travelling with a year old, I need some time to refresh and analyse how my son is responding to the flights.
Amritsar – Ahmedabad
After letting you know my ‘to’ flight, I would like to tell you that there are few airline companies which offer you direct flights between Ahmedabad and Amritsar. So my ‘fro’ flight is a direct flight.
I have booked a Spicejet flight from Amritsar. I have chosen this flight as my ‘fro’ flight because:
1. It will be just a 2-hour journey.
2. I will reach Ahmedabad before midnight.
3. By then, I will have experienced two flights with my son. So I feel we will have a fair bit of knowledge of how our one-year-old is behaving.
Choosing flights is all about your convenience. And when it comes to choosing flights between Ahmedabad & Amritsar, you will get a variety of airline companies to choose from. You have to decide which airline company you want to go with depending on your budget and the situation you are in.
Booking early has been something that I do always. But i never bothered about the time. i never thought of booking late night flights also. But this time I think I should give it a try

After Covid now the things are quite streamlined and not that difficult to book a flight to enjoy a safe journey. Early booking we always do and yes I am aware too the timings of flight and route to decide the price of the tickets. Its a helpful post for many
I believe it is absolutely important to know the details of the flight and route when you are visiting any place. With the opening up of the world, travel is booming as well. So we have to be sure.
