Before 2019 even started, it was declared as the year of web series. Hundreds of web series were released on different platforms and users were glued to those platforms throughout the year. It happened because of the hype created by few web series in 2018.
It was very difficult to choose one out of hundreds of web series because each and every platform delivered unique and relatable content. Moreover, each and every platform delivered at least one masterpiece in 2019.
Thus, after watching web series on different platforms and not evaluating any kind of ratings, I have chosen a web series that blew my mind away. I don’t think any other web series was more realistic or inspiring than this one.
The name of web series which according to me is the web series of 2019 is ‘Abstract’.
You can find this series on Netflix. If you have Netflix subscription and you haven’t seen it yet then leave everything else and watch this series. Let me tell you why!
Abstract
Abstract is a documentary series that features the designers of different industries. It takes you in the mind of designers and shows you how wonderful designs are born. Shoe designer, architect, interior designer, stage designer, costume designer, graphic designer, automotive designer, photographer, illustrator, digital product designer, toy designer, bio-architect and typeface designer, this series features all of them (I hope I haven’t missed any). This is not just a web series, it is the journey of art and innovation.
Why Abstract is Web Series of the year?
The first season of Abstract was released in 2017 but it came into my notice when the second season was released in September 2019. I watched this series on one episode on a given day basis. And after every episode, I used to take couple of days to sink in the level of innovation. It made me realise, what the hell am I doing in my life? I got a reality check almost in every episode. I was pushed to think out of not just the box but the container. It inspired me to innovate the new ways and try different things.
Apart from the characteristics mentioned above, Abstract took me in the headquarter of Nike. It showed me how design of a new car is tested. It proved that even worms can make a dome. Moreover, it also conveyed the message that it is the design of stage which makes the artist look great.
Abstract taught me more than any other web series in 2019. It is ‘the more I watch, the more I learn’ kind of web series. Thus, according to me, it is a web series of the year.
I hope Netflix is working on the third season of Abstract because I can’t wait for it.
I am a binge-watcher but not of series.
Only a few I have seen on Netflix except for Kdramas.

This series is not short. Every episode is like a short film.
