Indian Web Series on Prime Video part 2

I saw ten Indian web series on amazon prime video in 2019. Though, Amazon released eleven. Out of ten, I reviewed first five in the first part and rest I will review in this post.

Skulls & Roses

Raghu and Rajeev made a comeback (and debut on digital streaming platform) through this series. If you have been fan of Raghu and Rajeev era in Roadies then you will love Skulls and Roses. They turn the clock back and take you on that journey again. This show is not Roadies, it is a mixture of Roadies and Splitsvilla. They have shot the show in exotic locations. I enjoyed the show because Raghu and Rajeev after a while were refreshing.

The Family Man

The Family Man is one of the best web series on amazon prime. It has won awards as well. The actors, storyline, characters everything falls into the right place. I picked up this series because of Manoj Bajpayee but he would have done nothing if actors around him haven’t produced an excellent performance. Each and every actor (including child artists) has done jaw-dropping acting in this series. According to me, this is the series that brought the belief back in Indian content. I am eagerly waiting for its season 2.

Jestination Unknown

Vir Das is to Indian stand-up comedy (in context of live shows and online content) what Amitabh Bachchan is to the Indian film industry. Before this, Vir’s stand up acts were found on Netflix but in 2019, he came up with a series on amazon prime. This series is known as jestination unknown. In this series, he takes comedy to the places where stand up acts has not been done before. In the series, Vir basically goes to the destinations where organizers and comics don’t find an audience for stand up acts, explores the city, becomes the tour guide, organizes the show and make people laugh. It is a must-watch series on amazon prime.

One Mic Stand

The title ‘one mic stand’ pulled me towards this web series. In this series, celebs of different fields (who haven’t done stand up before) are pushed to do stand up comedy. They are assigned one mentor from whom they learn the nuances of stand up before the act and then they perform on stage. Along with celebs, mentors perform as well. It is a strategy mentors perform before the celebs and celebs cash on the laughs and momentum gained by mentors. Actually, none of the celebs needed that momentum, all of them were damn good. Watch the series to witness the experiment.

Inside Edge – S2

Season one of inside edge was a success because it shown somewhat reality around fixing in cricket and IPL. The success of season one created a lot of hopes for season two but in 2019, season two of some promising Indian web series had disappointed. So this season of inside edge was under the scanner. Critics were way too critical and you won’t find good reviews but from the viewpoint of viewer, I liked the season. The synchronization between new characters and the storyline is amazing. Moreover, story went on to the next level. In short, season two lived upto the expectations and it has increased the expectations for season three which will be released this year.

The first half on amazon prime was not much happening, couple of shows created the excitement but the ending was dull but second half covered up for all the disappointment. Amazon released binge-worthy series one after the other. I hope 2020 will live upto the expectations.
