ZEE5 Original: Poison 2 Review

After a break from watching web series, I needed a series that has the capacity to hold me till the end.

And again it’s ZEE5 who came up with the series which held me till the end. The name of this web series is Poison. After Tiki-Taka, this is the first series I saw on ZEE5. I picked this series because I saw something interesting in the trailer.

It was the trailer of season 2 and I haven’t watched the first season. So I was in two minds but as I started the first episode, recap gave some sort of idea about the plot. And as I watched further, the whole story was in front of my eyes.

#Poison2

As I mentioned earlier, the trailer grabbed my attention. The trailer showed me the glimpses of a perfect suspense thriller. Apart from that, I saw that Aftab Shivdasani is in intense role. We have seen him mostly in adult comedies and multi-starer movies. So I wanted to see how good he is as a lead in an intense character.

Cast

Apart from Aftab Shivdasani, the cast of Poison 2 is the good mix of new and experienced actors. Raai Laxmi, Pooja Chopra, Ashmita Sood and Sakshi Pradhan are the female actors in the cast. While Vin Rana, Zain Imam, Taher Shabbir and Karan Veer Mehra forms the male cast alongside veterans like Aftab, Rahul Dev, Pawan Chopra, Joy Sengupta and Gaurav Sharma. The list doesn’t end there, you will find more actors in the series apart from the names I have mentioned. Considering the huge cast, one can imagine the number of characters in the series.

Plot

The series starts with a derby and a racecourse. Story of the series revolves around that racecourse. Aditya Singh Rathore (Aftab) introduce himself by winning the derby on the weakest horse. The triumvirate Sara (Raai Laxmi), Harsh (Zain Imam) and Oscar (Vin Rana) are the owners of the most successful derby team and they are aiming for the rights of racecourse. Aditya’s entry in the scene makes that aim difficult. Aditya provides them a helping hand and that hand breaks the triumvirate. Not only that, he brings out the secrets by wooing Sara and those secrets bring in a gangster Tony (Taher Shabbir) and a police inspector Isha (Pooja Chopra).

All of the sudden, the game becomes bigger and adds gold and diamonds worth hundreds of crores. Aditya breaks the triumvirate with an intention to take revenge but triumvirate is smart enough to detect that and outsmart Aditya. Gangster Tony and Inspector Isha are also in the scene to take revenge. In this way, #RevengeNeverEnds in this series. All the stories are interconnected with each other and revenge is the only purpose of these stories.

Who wins in the end? Watch the series to know that.

Review

Every episode starts with a link to a story in history. So if you haven’t watched season one then it gives you an idea about that. In other words, there is no need to watch season one to understand the plot of season two. The series is full of twists and turns. As so many characters are involved, almost every episode ends with a twist and that pushes you to watch another and another. Despite having so many characters, the series doesn’t lose its plot. This series lives up to the expectations of a perfect suspense thriller. This is the kind of quality I was searching for after a break from watching web series.

As far as acting is concerned, Aftab Shivdasani steals the show in an intense character. Apart from him, the only actor who stands out for me is Taher Shabbir. The younger lot gives its 100 percent and the veterans play their role perfectly but these two actors make the series intense and a must-watch. In fact, I will say there are some flaws in the story but good acting covers them really well.

If you are a fan of or in a search of good suspense thriller series then Poison 2 is a must-watch for you.

  1. It is interesting to see aftab in an intense role. I stopped following him after multiple adult comedy roles as I felt it didn’t do justice to his acting skills.

  2. Zee5 has been coming out with some really interesting shows. Watching Aftab shivdasani after a long break on small screen is going to be interesting as his role seems to be more intense unlike the movies he has done. I am gonna watch this soon.

  3. Nice review. If I would pick this web series, the reason would be Aftab in a suspense thriller. I have seen the trailer but I was still not sure to add it to my list. Now, I think I will watch it.
